Story Behind Herb Cook, The man that saved
Norwottuck Fish and Game Club
Started as an annual field day until the 50's where it evolved into the Herb Cook Club Championship.
Herb Cook was a local business man, selling eggs throughout the Pioneer Valley and the heart and soul of this club. He truly is "What you see is what you get" - Frank Thorton. Herb was the member that gathered the existing members to take a stand to save Norwottuck Fish and Game Club. At the Board of Directors meeting there was a 15 member strong group to let it be know this club is worth saving. Once the Club was saved, Herb assumed management of the trap and skeet fields in the early 60's. Regular Trap and Skeet was established for Sunday Mornings and Tuesday Afternoons. At the time It was .25 cents a round. Herb not much longer after assuming management purchased Winchester Trap Machines which he paid himself back through shooting revenues. A change that increased the price to .35 cents per round but well worth the hassle to not throw clays by hand.
This This club would not be here with Herb Cook had taken the Initiative to save what is now know as Norwottuck Fish and Game Club!
